Prix Maxime Dahan pour l’Instrumentation et les Méthodes innovantes à l’Interface Physique-Biologie-Médecine

Maxime Dahan, physicien de formation, a été un des acteurs majeurs du développement de nouvelles méthodes et approches à l’interface de la physique et de la biologie, principalement en imagerie et microscopie des cellules vivantes. Il a été l’un des fondateurs du suivi de molécules individuelles, il a développé de nouvelles méthodes d’imagerie en super-résolution, de nouveaux principes d’acquisition d’images et de visualisation des données, ainsi que des outils de pilotage des processus biologiques (cellulaires ou neuronaux) à des fins médicales. Ces approches et outils ont permis de nombreuses avancées dans la compréhension quantitative de problématiques biologiques allant de la biophysique de l’organisation du noyau cellulaire jusqu’à des applications de visualisation de données médicales.

Le fond Maxime Dahan souhaite pérenniser tant l’action de Maxime -prématurément disparu- que l’essor du périmètre scientifique qu’il a dessiné, en remettant un prix biannuel à un chercheur. Ce prix récompensera un nouvel outil ou une méthode innovante qui aura permis une avancée majeure aux interfaces physique-biologie-médecine, notamment dans le domaine de l’imagerie et de la manipulation des objets biologiques, visant tant la compréhension de questions fondamentales en biologie que des applications médicales.

Il sera remis par un comité scientifique formé de chercheurs de renom international, lors d’une des Grandes Conférences du domaine.

The Maxime Dahan Prize for Innovation in Methods and Instrumentation at the Interface of Physics, Biology & Medicine Institut Curie, Paris

You are warmly invited to contribute to the launch of the Prix Maxime Dahan, a prize administered under the aegis of the Institut Curie, to recognize scientific innovation at the interface of physics, biology and medicine.

Maxime Dahan was a pioneer in single molecule biophysics, responsible for advancing our understanding of the organization of living systems through innovative developments in imaging and microscopy.  Physicist by training, Maxime embraced an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together advanced microscopy, nanobiosciences, and molecular and cellular biology. With his team, Maxime conceived and implemented new imaging and data visualization methods, and created tools for manipulating biological processes in cells (neurons, migrating cells), and was recently developing virtual reality tools to explore cells and tissues in 3D.

Maxime was the head of the Institut Curie’s Physical Chemistry Unit, a CNRS researcher, and an associate professor at the Ecole Polytechnique, at time of his death in July 2018, aged 46.

Financial contributions made to the Maxime Dahan Fund at the Institut Curie will serve to offer a biannual prize to a scientist who significantly advances the study of cellular processes with new tools or methods, particularly relating to imaging and micromanipulation of biological objects, for fundamental research or medical application.

The prize will be overseen by an internationally recognized scientific advisory committee and delivered at a major scientific conference.
